Just a Journal by Riki #12

It’s May, we’re still in lockdown but life is pretty good. And I cannot believe I’m on number 12 of Just A Journal!

Here goes this week’s notes...

Soooo kind:

  • I’m a firm believer that you get what you give. It costs nothing to be kind, it’s certainly not a sign of weakness, and who wants to surround themselves with unkind people anyhow?
  • It’s so important to me to value people and do what I can, and good vibes = good karma.
  • There are so many kind people out there. Last week some beautiful blooms arrived from a great friend, I got a JN Wine gift this week from another dear work colleague, and people have been so generous with their time.... kindness, keep on giving, keep it coming.
  • #bekind

Learning:

  • I love learning! It can be challenge though. The time to dedicate to new learning and thinking can be hard to find, but when you do, you rarely regret it!
  • Last week I became a Chartered PR practitioner. It was a stretch.
  • The learning delved into internal comms, crisis comms, frameworks and ethics. This is not where I sit. What I found most interesting is how much I devoured the learning.... I thoroughly enjoyed the prep; it gave me renewed focus and vigour and it ignited new ideas for RNN.

So the icing on the cake was to become chartered in what was the Chartered Institute of public relations’ first-ever virtual assessment. I met such lovely other PR professionals and we had we had really inquisitive but supportive assessors.

Every day is a school day! Keep on learning and growing 😀

Unfair:

  • In this pandemic, we’re all in this together. That sentiment is very true but there’s a huge disparity between what the vast majority of us are coping with and those on the frontline, the families who have lost loved ones and those who are unwell at this time.
  • Yes, it’s a difficult time for us all but we’re so lucky. We have to stay home, we have challenges with home schooling, birthdays and special occasions are cancelled or are very different, and we need to keep our mental health in check, but for many thousands, this is a nightmare.
  • This is so evident to me at the moment as I have a relative who’s grieving, a dear friend in ICU who's growing stronger every day and I know of so many other people who have lost loved ones at this time. My thoughts and prayers are firmly with them and with those who are risking their lives to help care for our communities.

New business:

  • Unbelievably, new business calls are coming! People are looking for opportunities and for some, this is the time to build their brand.
  • I’m so thankful to my wider network and to our clients for recommending RNN to others. That’s the ultimate compliment.
