How Green is your city?

The most environmentally friendly places to live in the UK revealed

If living and working somewhere environmentally friendly is important to you, it’s time to pack your bags and move to greener pastures… unless you already live in Belfast which ranks third in a recent eco survey.

From owning a reusable water bottle or coffee cup to adopting a vegan diet and cycling to work, living an eco-friendly lifestyle is now more accessible than ever.

In fact, the green-ness of our lifestyles is now becoming such a priority that cities up and down the country are taking steps in areas such as recycling, air quality and green spaces to keep up with the demands of their eco-minded residents. And now, thanks to a new report from Compare the Market, we know which UK cities come out on top when it comes to the environment.

Using local and regional data, the research analysed factors including the % of household waste sent for reuse, recycling or composting, air quality, the number of parks per 10,000 people and the number of eco-friendly Google searches, for example 'recycling centre' and 'electric cars'.

Bristol came out on top, with a high score for recycling and air quality and number one for eco-friendly Google searches, with Edinburgh a close second and Belfast named third.
